This article describes how to use file-sharing services to send a link rather than a large attachment when emailing a video. The instructions are applicable to Gmail and Google Drive, Outlook and OneDrive, Yahoo and Apple Mail, as well as the majority of other email and cloud service providers.

How to Use Gmail to Send Large Videos

Gmail has a 25 MB message size limit. If your video is less than 25 MB in size, attach it to your email message.

When sharing a video file larger than 25 MB, save it to Google Drive and share a link to it with recipients. Your recipients can access the video by clicking on the link.

To include a Google Drive link to a video in a Gmail message, follow these steps:

  1. Within Gmail, click Compose to open a new message window.
  2. Begin by selecting the email’s recipient, adding a subject, and typing your message.
  3. At the bottom of the screen, click the Google Drive icon.
  4. Click the Upload tab to save a video to Google Drive from your computer.
  5. Select Choose files from your computer.
  6. Navigate to the video file and click Open.
  7. Click Upload and wait for Google Drive to save the file.
  8. Once the upload is complete, the video appears in the email message as a link.
  9. Click Send. You are prompted to enable link sharing.
  10. Click Send to email the link and enable the video to be viewed by anyone who has the link.
  11. When the recipient clicks on the email’s link, the video is opened in Google Drive.

Using Outlook and OneDrive to Email a Video

Outlook imposes a 20 MB message size limit. The maximum file size for a business account is 10 MB. Attach the video file to the email message if it is smaller than the file size limit.

When using Outlook to send large video files, save the file to OneDrive and include a link to the file that anyone can view.

To email large videos via Outlook and OneDrive, follow these steps:

  1. Open OneDrive and navigate to the file’s destination folder.
  2. Navigate to Upload > Files.
  3. Navigate to the folder containing the video, right-click on it, and then select Open. When the file is finished uploading, a notification appears.
  4. Click on Share Link.
  5. Enter the recipient’s email address or name. As you type, suggestions based on your contact list will appear.
  6. Type the message’s text and then click Send.

To open a new message window containing a shareable link, select Outlook. To copy the shareable link to the Clipboard and paste it into any document, select Copy Link.

  1. Both you and the recipient will receive an email containing the video’s link. Your recipient can use the link to view and download the video.

How to Send a Video via Email Using Yahoo Mail

Yahoo Mail has a 25 MB message size limit. If your video is less than 25 MB in size, attach it to the email message. To send videos larger than 25 MB, include a link to the file via a cloud-based storage service.

How to Send a Video via Email Using Apple Mail

Apple OS X Mail imposes a 20 MB message size limit. Attach the video to the email message if it is less than 20 MB in size. For larger files, use an iCloud account and the Mail Drop service to upload them to iCloud, where they will be easily accessible to any recipient for 30 days.
