Opera Mail is a standalone program as of Opera version 15, released in 2013. Earlier versions of the browser included an email client.

Now, lets take a look at how you can create a backup of your Opera Mail messages, which is useful in the event that you need to restore emails or account settings.

How to Create an Opera Mail Backup

The steps for saving your Opera Mail emails vary according to whether you use Opera Mail as a browser extension or as a standalone program. Any discrepancies will be highlighted in the directions.

  1. In the upper-left corner of the window, click Opera Mail, then click Help > About Opera Mail.

If you access Opera Mail through a browser, navigate to Opera > Help > About Opera.

  1. Copy the directory next to Mail, then exit the program.
  2. In Windows Explorer, navigate to that folder.
  3. Navigate to the root folder of the application. The objective here is to view the mail folder—the one that contains all of the mail’s data. For instance, in this case, the folder is:

C:\Users\Jon\AppData\Local\Opera\Opera\mail\

Move one folder up. The destination, in this case, is as follows:

C:\Users\Jon\AppData\Local\Opera\Opera\

  1. Right-click and copy the email folder. Another fast method is to left-click a folder once to highlight it and then press Ctrl+C on the keyboard.
  2. Paste the mail folder into the location where you want the data to be backed up. This could be an online file storage account, a backup location, an external hard drive, a flash drive, or another folder on the same computer.
