Email forwarding transfers messages automatically from one account to another. Each new email received in your Hotmail account (or other Microsoft email account accessed via Outlook.com) is forwarded to that address. This is useful if you have a Hotmail or a secondary Outlook.com email account and do not wish to log in to those accounts to check for new messages.

Forward Windows Live Hotmail Email to a Different Email Account

Because Windows Live Hotmail and Outlook.com work together, you can forward your Hotmail email to another address using Outlook Mail. When you forward these emails to your Gmail, Yahoo, or other Outlook.com email account, you continue to receive the messages but are relieved of the need to constantly check the accounts.

To forward your Windows Live Hotmail account to another email account, follow these steps:

To bypass the subsequent steps, navigate directly to the Outlook forwarding options.

  1. Access your email via Outlook Mail.
  2. Click the Settings menu icon (it resembles a gear and is located on the right side of the menu bar).
  3. Select View all Outlook preferences.
  4. Navigate to Mail > Forwarded Messages.
  5. Check the box labeled Enable forwarding.
  6. Check the box labeled Enable forwarding.
  7. Click Save to apply the changes.
